As Chicago Park District Arts Partners in Residence, Khecari trades public programming for studio use. Between January’s intense admin tasks and our yearly studio break in February we have a chunk of time where we’re not using the studio at Indian Boundary Cultural Center and we want to share our resources with BIPOC/ALAANA artists in our community each year in this time window. We are offering our inaugural year with Chih-Hsien Lin, who has worked with Khecari for almost a decade. We have invited her as our first resident so we can work through the details on how this residency will be administered and supported. In the future we will administrate a simple application process open to the public or develop a different selection process that feels best for sharing this resource with others. Our next selection process will be a lottery with a short google doc application being released later in 2022. This residency offers a free, no-tech, studio practice space with a residency stipend equal to Khecari’s equal-pay-for-all hourly rate, currently $17/hr, and a no-tech work-in-progress showing at the end. Please sign up for our newsletter to get notifications for the next application round.
This event will be ASL interpreted by Heidi Woelbling.

ABOUT THE WORK
Title: Open Diary - 100th Day Offering
Performance design, movement development, & performer: Chih-Hsien Lin, previously known as Joan (JoAn). (she/her)
Audio editor & idea support: Ben Law
Artist website: lindmt.com
The themes of this work include otherness, voices, loss & grief, witnessing, cultural unconscious, shame, and blessings. The work has been inspired by deeply personal, but with further examination largely collective, experiences of otherness and grief. One central subject that is explored is how (use of) language(s) shapes our movement and behavioral habits, as well as our whole embodiment through life, especially for people cross-cultural, intercultural, and transnational. And the movement in this work is generated through and devised from series of Authentic Movement sessions, a discipline that is practiced with the mover moves with their eyes closed in the presence of witness(es). Authentic Movement provides a process for awakening the spirit in the body and a container for midwifing the soul in psychotherapy, healing/meditation, and creative work.
